This is the default router IP address many home-based broadband routers can have. For example, Belkin and SMC model routers have 192.168.2.1 as their default router address. When devices are manufactured these access points or IP addresses are set by the company. However, any router or computer can be reconfigured and these specifications can be changed.

How to login to router IP Address

If your router has 192.168.2.1 as default IP address and you need to login to the router’s admin console, type http://192.168.2.1. in your web browser. Don’t type  http://www.192.168.2.1 remember it has / at last. After the connection to the network in order to complete the login process, you will be asked to enter username and password. If the network ever goes offline the browser will display an error message as: ‘This webpage is not available’. 

Limits of using 192.168.2.1

You can’t link to a router from outside your home network because 192.168.2.1 is a private network. You can use the router’s public IP address. If you have two routers to set up on your home network simultaneously, then both these routers will have different IP addresses.

Can the router IP address be changed?

Yes, it can be configured and customized within the Admin Console. The Admin Console of a router has options to change router IP addresses and other settings such as WiFi name and password etc.

Not able to login to 192.168.2.1?

If you type IP Address manually on the address bar of the browser and you make any error you won’t be able to login to the admin console. First, type it correctly and then enter your username and password when asked. In case you forgot the password, reset the device by pressing the reset button of your device for a while.
